Mr. Koontz began at the ground floor selling siding and vacuums door-to-door, which helped shape his drive and resilience years later. After he learned what he could, Mr. Koontz took on the family business, Josie’s Pawn Shop. He produced high volumes of sales in short periods, increasing sales by 60 percent within the first couple of months. Mr. Koontz dealt directly with both current and potential customers, building trust and a reputation for fairness, and ensuring everyone received exemplary service and quality goods. With Mr. Koontz’s strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, he became responsible for all employees and store operations. He managed work schedules and all company funds, developed innovative business practices, and maintained a 97.5 percent pick up rate with his collateral-based loans.
